About the Author
I first became seriously interested in woodworking while taking a wood shop class in high school. I only took it during my senior year, but during that one year I not only learned a great deal about machinery and wood-working principles but had a chance to build several of my own designs in the class. While the other students were making trouble I was making a large built-in oak bookcase/cabinet system that spanned a doorframe, picture window, and included adjustable shelving based aroung a face-frame design.
After high school things got delayed for several years as I went off to college, started my business, and got married. Finally in 2006 I got my long hoped-for garage when a nice gentleman from Arroyo Grande gave me a 1949-1953ish 10″ Craftsman contracter table saw. I had been looking for a saw but this pretty much fell into my lap. Now that I had a saw, I had to get the garage to keep it in, and things pretty much started happening pretty quickly from then on. A couple months after the table saw I had amassed 5 or 6 additional machines and my garage was starting to look like a shop! So far I have spent a minimal amount of money but have most of the machines I’ll need and solid ones at that. They are all older, around 50-100 years old and are mostly cast iron. Parts are readily available for the machines sold under the Craftsman label, and as for the others, there are some really good sources out there on the internet.
This site will document my work as I rebuild and restore my machines to use. Hopefully This will inspire you to look at yesterday’s tools in a different way.
