1912 Silver 26″ Bandsaw

The Silver Mfg Co. – 26″ Band saw
Circa 1912

Finally, after looking for over a year I found a Silver of fair size within my price range. This saw is going to be my main bandsaw I think. I am hoping to get a 36″er for resawing and a 14″ Delta for small work.

As it stands the saw needs a new wheel shaft turned, guide work and a strip and re-paint. The previous owner ran a foundry and bought the saw with hopes of using it to help build his patterns.

    Christine,

Prices can range from $0 – $1000. Condition is important but more than that is what is someone willing to pay for it? That can range from area to area and from person to person. Most of my machines were had in the $0 – $150 range – but I’m good :-) .

    Burdette,

Ebay is a great place to get good exposure on a machine you are trying to sell.

Luke, I’m trying to find a 26″ wheel for my Crescent bandsaw. As you know they are hard to find. I’m in southern California where there’s not many old machines to pick through. I’ve posted on OWWM.com with no luck. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

    Luke,

How tall is that bandsaw? I’d love to find a Silver but have limited height in my shop. I’m wondering if I have to hunt for a 20″, or if the 26″ would fit.

    Great site!

    Wayne,

I think you have 2 options. First is to send off your wheel to a foundry and have a copy cast then have it machined. Second is to wait it out on the owwm for sale forum. One will come up as parts eventually but it might be years ;-)

    Randy,

The Silver catalogue i have puts the height of the 26″ bandsaw at 79″.

    Luke,

If you are still looking, I have a turn of the century black cast iron Dennis Machine Co band saw that I am looking to sell. It is in great condition save for some of the wood runners are a bit weathered. The top wheel is 36″ and stands 8′ tall. I live in gold country, so I am pretty sure it was used in one of the local mining operations. 530-277-2769

I’ve been searching for a disc sander manufactured by the “Crescent Machine Co.”, formerly of Leetonia, Ohio. They manufactured 15″ & 18″ disc sanders (benchtop & pedestal mount) up to around the mid 1950′s.

If anyone knows where I can find one please drop me a line. Thank you.

Hi there, I’m just new to this forum. Being in New Zealand puts me a little way away from the action, but I just happened to purchase a very venerable old bandsaw, a pre 1910-ish(arched not flat base casting) 36inch Silver, which looks to be in pretty good original condition. The top wheel babbit bearing is pretty stuffed though, so i’ll have to look into whether to re-pour if I can find the metal or perhaps rebore for ball-bearings.
Anyone with any advice or comments on this problem, it would be appreciated.I’ll post some pics when i figure out the procedure.
