Delta 40-440 VS 24″ Scroll Saw

December 19, 2008 – 12:20 pm

This saw is often thought of as being the best scroll saw ever designed, right up there with the Powermatic. My saw has the variable speed attachment which is nice. The motor is original Delta with the shaft cover and is a Double-Duty single phase. I’m looking for a No. 716 steel stand for this saw to go on.

  3. Mike,

Your saw was made in 1945. If you call Delta and give them the serial
number they will give you the month it was made also.

You can find more info the owwm.com site wiki:

  4. Can you provide any insight to the construction of the spring-loaded head for an old cast 24″ scroll saw? It was old in appearance when I got it in 1970. I will check serial numbers tonight. The top of the square metal shaft had some sort of fastening mechanism brazed on- guessing something like a nut. It separated. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, richard
